Here are examples of the kind of searches you might do for your research paper.These are only examples, though. You have to devise searches that relate to your research paper topic.

homeless* AND (New York OR Paris)

• By using the * symbol, you will find articles that use the keywords homeless or homelessness
• If you are writing a paper about homelessness in New York and in Paris, then put OR between the cities: that way you will find articles that discuss New York, articles that discuss Paris, and articles that discuss both cities

suburban expansion OR suburban sprawl OR urban sprawl

• Try to think of alternative search terms. If your topic is suburban expansion, you can use terms that mean the same thing and connect them with OR
